Drama in Fun English Lessons
Drama is a very important learning tool for students. Drama helps to improve students’ communication skills and enhance collaboration with teammates. It also helps students to express themselves and build their self-confidence. Aside from this, drama is also incredibly fun and can be a great way to relieve stress. Students benefit greatly.
In Fun English lessons, we infuse elements of drama into lessons, so students can get all of the benefits mentioned above. It also helps students stay engaged, interested and entertained when there are a variety of activities in lessons.
All year groups did at least two drama performances this year. The performances are often done outside of the classroom or on the stage of the school hall. J.6 students were given more creative control over their final performance, as they were tasked with writing their own scripts in groups to perform for their classmates. For J.6, their scripts were based around their final book ‘The Last Day of School’.
All other year groups also did drama performances based on their final books. Students were encouraged to memorise their lines and be off-script in order to focus on their intonation and stage directions during the performance. Students were also encouraged to think of any props or costumes that would enhance the performance for the audience.
Students thoroughly enjoyed preparing and performing their drama shows for their classmates.
